IMPROVING THE HEALTH OF MOTHERS AND CHILDREN

CHARM

CHARM (Child Health Advances from Research with Mothers) is an alliance of scientists and providers from five Michigan institutions whose goal is to improve the health of mothers and children in our state.

Why CHARM matters

CHARM’s principal tool is the cohort study that begins in pregnancy and continues into childhood.

"We feel that learning about what happens in pregnancy in real-time is critical if we are to make a difference in maternal and child health."

Exposures that increase the risks of these conditions are not understood well, especially those that occur at critical times in pregnancy. A carefully studied pregnancy cohort can address this problem. Our long-term goal is to improve the health of Michigan mothers and children, and especially to reduce the high burden of infant and maternal mortality and severe morbidity in our state.
